Message of Solidarity to PEO
8 February Mass Mobilisation
Dear Comrades,
On behalf of the CGTP-IN leading bodies and in the name of the workers we represent in Portugal, we convey our most fraternal and militant solidarity with PEO, other trade unions and social organisations for your mass united mobilisation on the occasion of the visit of the “troika” to Cyprus to review the Memorandum imposed on your workers and people.
In fact, the measures adopted in the vast majority of the EU countries, with particular violence in countries where IMF, ECB and EU “troikas” have been imposing “bail-out programmes”, are in fact aggression tools on national sovereignty and on the living standards of workers and peoples. This is confirmed by the situation in Greece, Portugal, Cyprus and Ireland and also by developments in other countries like Spain and Italy.
All across Europe, workers and trade unions must step up the fight for a clear rupture with these neoliberal policies and with the EU model. We need to build a different Europe, a Europe of workers and peoples, with social dimension, solidarity and cooperation, with respect for member states’ sovereignties, specific needs and interests.
In Portugal our struggle is similar and common to yours. Expressing our solidarity, we wish you great success on February 8th and send our
Fraternal Regards
Lisbon, 5 February 2014
