“National Day of Protest and Struggle” on 8 JULY 2010

Following the enormous National Demonstration of 29 May, promoted by the CGTP-IN(General Confederation of the Portuguese Workers), which was attended by more than 300 thousand people, the ongoing offensive against the Portuguese men and women’s rights and interests, requires the continuation and intensification of information and mobilisation for the struggle against the policies being adopted by the Socialist Party Government, with the support of the Social-Democratic Party and of big business, and for the assertion of the CGTP-IN proposals. Dia Nacional de Protesto e Luta

Depois da Grande Manifestação Nacional de 29 de Maio, convocada pela CGTP-IN (Confederação Geral dos Trabalhadores Portugueses), em que participaram mais de 300 mil pessoas, em Lisboa, a ofensiva em curso contra os direitos e interesses dos trabalhadores e trabalhadoras e do povo português exige a continuação e a intensificação do esclarecimento e da mobilização para a luta contra as políticas que o Governo do PS vem adoptando, com o apoio do PSD e do grande patronato, e pela afirmação das propostas da CGTP-IN.
Tal exigência torna-se mais relevante quando se aproxima a implementação de algumas medidas, nomeadamente, a nova taxa de IRS sobre os salários, a subida do IVA e o aumento dos transportes que, para além de agravarem o custo de vida, não deixarão de ter repercussões nos já depauperados rendimentos das famílias.
O combate à generalidade destas medidas e, em particular, o combate ao desemprego, à precariedade dos vínculos laborais, aos bloqueios patronais à negociação da contratação colectiva, à redução dos salários, ao encerramento de escolas e de outros serviços de prestação de direitos sociais às populações, torna-se, neste contexto, uma prioridade do Movimento Sindical, no trabalho a desenvolver nos próximos tempos, por mais e melhores empregos, salários, direitos, serviços públicos, afirmando as propostas da CGTP-IN.
Neste contexto, o Conselho Nacional da CGTP-IN decidiu convocar, para 8 de Julho, um “DIA NACIONAL DE PROTESTO E LUTA” com greves e paralisações de trabalho adequadas a cada situação e com uma forte presença dos trabalhadores e trabalhadoras e de outras camadas da população, em manifestações na rua, em todos os distritos do País.
Esta é uma luta que é de todos e para todos, por um presente e um futuro melhor.

CGTP-IN calls for a
“National Day of Protest and Struggle” on 8 JULY 2010

Following the enormous National Demonstration of 29 May, promoted by the CGTP-IN(General Confederation of the Portuguese Workers), which was attended by more than 300 thousand people, the ongoing offensive against the Portuguese men and women’s rights and interests, requires the continuation and intensification of information and mobilisation for the struggle against the policies being adopted by the Socialist Party Government, with the support of the Social-Democratic Party and of big business, and for the assertion of the CGTP-IN proposals.

This requirement becomes even more relevant when, in the near horizon, appear new measures, notably the new Income Tax on salaries, the rise in VAT and the increase of transport fares, which, besides aggravating the cost of living, will have a repercussion in the already weakened household revenues.

The fight against these measures and, more particularly, the fight against unemployment, precarious labour contracts, wage cuts, as well as against the closure of schools and other social services rendered to the population, has become, in this context, a priority of the trade union movement and of our work in the times ahead, for more and better jobs, wages, rights and public services, asserting the CGTP-IN proposals.

Against this backdrop, the CGTP-IN National Council has decided to call for 8 July a “National Day of Protest and Struggle, with strikes and work stoppages that are adequate to each situation and with a strong participation of men and women workers and other strata of society, in street demonstrations, in all districts of the country.

This is a struggle of all and for all, for a better present and a better future.
